ELOISA HENDERSON-FIGUEROA

Dec 9, 2021

Eloisa creates vibrant murals that pay homage to her South American roots yet with a modern twist. By carving out her own path she is able to sustain a fruitful career creating exactly what she wants. Her maximalist approach to painting murals results in inspiring pieces that are a guaranteed feast for the eyes.

Where are you from?

I’m born and raised in London, but my Mum is from Chile and my Dad is Scottish.

An artist, musician, and actor you´d invite to dinner.

Camille Walala. I’ve been to a talk with her and she just seems like such a lovely person and think we would have so much to talk about! We both love colour and shapes.

Creativity is …

Everything to me. Without it I am nothing.

Describe your art in three words.

Happy, colourful, fun.

The most difficult thing about creating.

I’m a big procrastinator! I have tons of ideas but I’m a bit lazy to put them into action.

How did the quarantine affect your creative process?

Made me more productive than I’ve ever been. I took it as a chance to work on everything I’ve ever wanted to do.

What music do you listen to when creating?

I listen to a lot of jazz, especially UK jazz. There is an amazing scene out there right now with so many talented young people coming through.

How has your art has evolved over the past three years?

– I have been able to get bigger projects which has allowed me to make work I couldn’t have imagined
– I’ve kept exploring and developing my style
– During the pandemic I started teaching online classes and it definitely made my style evolve and change the way I was making work

Did you always want to be an artist?

I never really knew what I wanted to do. I just knew that I could never work in a ‘normal’ job.

Three tips to keep creativity flowing.

-Don’t stop creating.
-Don’t think about it too much, just do it.
-Only do things that you love and can be proud of.

Favourite art movement.

I’m not very good at being knowledgeable about particular art movements… but I would have to say the art deco movement is my favourite. The glamour and beauty in the architecture, fashion and design get me every time. It’s everything I look for when I am inspired. I love the shapes and the designs.

Something creative you´d like to try.

I’ve always enjoyed dancing but I would love to get really good at it. Something like break dancing, which I know I would be terrible at, but how cool would it be to just bust out some moves!

An artist on Instagram that we need to follow.

Morag Myerscough is an amazing artist and brings happiness to my feed. She is also really friendly and answers your questions on DMs!

Your favourite film.

The film Chef is my favourite film. It is the story of a father and son who go on a journey together in a food truck and become closer. The food looks amazing, the soundtrack is brilliant, I just love it!

Words you live by.

Do what you love and good things will happen.
